In the middle of the Pacific, it’s a long old trek to Easter Island so you’ve really got to want to go! But I had an absolute blast – there is some beautiful countryside, volcanos, bbqs, cliffs, wild horses, picnics, a damn fine local beer, and even a dog to go walking with. Oh yes, and lots and lot of giant heads – 887 of them in fact, but don’t go expecting to unravel any mysteries about them; there are as many theories as there are toppled Moai…
You can hike up to the volcano crater lake.Cooking the fish on the bbq for lunch.Cliffs…..…and endless blue ocean. There are wild horses all over the island. The Explora Hotel excelled themselves with a picnic for our day long hike.Sadly no local gin to try, but a very creditable local pale ale was had in quantity! My favourite walking buddy. The famous 15 Moai in a row.Heads in a row.Heads with hats.Heads on a hill.A kneeling Moai – they’re not all just heads you know.More headsAnother head.Easter Island – not just worth seeing, but worth going to see.
